WITHOUT using labels, who are you?
Workaholic meme loving rule follower who tries very hard to walk the line. Escapes through yoga, long chats with my kids, nonsense with my friends, walks with my husband.
Describe your household.
Progressive. Loud and fun loving. Independence is encouraged and ideally the kids try and figure it out before coming for mom and dad. Celebrate everything. Exercise and health are important and we try to lead through example. Reconnecting as often as possible.
When and how did you last surprise yourself?
I’m shockingly good at negotiating. I’ve finally learned that I’ll never get what I want if I don’t ask.
What do you adore about being a mother?
Being responsible and entrusted with 4 little souls is the gift of a lifetime. Helping them discover who they are is my greatest joy.
What do you despise about being a mother?
Balancing work and life. I love my job and I’d never give it up. I love my kids more…
What's something you want to do differently than the generations of mothers before you?
I think every generation has done the best that they knew at the time. Hope to just keep growing and learning and showing my kids to do the same.
What is something you’re proud of so far in your motherhood journey?
I’ve successfully breastfed 4 children. I carried my twins to full term. I’ve sacrificed behind the scenes for them to excel. I bust it to give them the best chance that I can.
What do you think is the biggest misconception about motherhood?
That maternity leave is vacation.
What do you think is the most common thread of motherhood?
Self sacrifice and I believe that there has to be a better way. More balance and more rest and more presence is important.
What energizes you?
Good coffee. My morning commute with a solid podcast. Alone time to exercise.
What last made you belly laugh?
My kids excited to see me when I get home from work
When do you and how do you feel totally relaxed?
I love 90 minute massages.
What is something that makes you cringe?
Sick pics of kids on social media ( maybe don’t share that lol) so attention seeking. I don’t need to see your kid getting a breathing treatment on Instagram livestream from the ER. Seeing kids berated for being kids. Laziness.
What is something that's stopped you in your tracks in the past year?
The realization that age is catching up with me.
What is something you've recently ate/listened to/read/watched that really captivated you?
The Last of Us. Papi Pascal forever!
Who or what kind of mother do you look up to and why?
Working moms who still wear lipstick and dress their kids in matching outfits. I see you!
When was the happiest you’ve seen your kid(s) and what were they doing?
Very fortunate that my kids love being together as a family. Even the simplest overnight trip to the beach THRILLS them. They love a break from the norm.
Describe a perfect day with your kids(s).
Getting outside and moving our bodies. Getting fresh smoothies. Blackout curtains for an afternoon nap. Snuggles on the couch and an early bedtime.
What is one silly frustration you've had recently?
Random men (bots) trying to friend me on Facebook. How old do I look in my profile picture?? I’m not interested in chatting with a “divorced war veteran chef” using a catalog photo as a profile pic.
What do you dream of for yourself? For your children?
Peace of mind and freedom (financial and personal)
How did you feel about being pregnant? What do you remember most about pregnancy?
Absolutely loved being pregnant. My hospital was very good to me and carried me through with a lot of love and support. I don’t think that I could’ve carried my twins FT while working FT if I’d worked anywhere else. My boss described me as a “sturdy little pregnant woman.”
What, if anything, do you want to remember about your birth story? Early motherhood?
Being keenly aware that it was a key moment in my life that would alter everything forever. Fear. Hope. Gratefulness. Ultimately amnesia and the willingness to do it again and again.
